From Non-Racialism to Anti-Racism: Conversations in Black and White

TIME: 7 PM SAST/9 AM ET | PLATFORM: Zoom | REGISTER: bit.ly/38v0s4q

The South African Constitution aspires to upholding a range of values including “non-racialism”, over time the emphasis has gradually shifted towards a focus on anti-racism. The Cape Town Holocaust & Genocide Centre (CTHGC) will host a webinar that will debate how the legacy of colonialism and apartheid in South Africa’s undermined the human dignity of black bodies in the country. Specifically, the long-standing anti-apartheid, anti-racism and anti-xenophobia struggles in South Africa have been anchored in the Constitution and Bill of Rights which states that “everyone has inherent dignity and the right to have their dignity respected and protected” (Chapter 10). The experiences and challenges of these struggles in South Africa, also has resonance in other parts of Africa such Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
