With antisemitism and other hatreds on the rise, we have been reflecting on what we can do with our peers to turn defense into offense against hatred in our community and beyond. We believe there is a meaningful opportunity for institutions of conscience to band together through a national campaign each April, Genocide Awareness Month, that demonstrates the importance and impact of Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights education at a time that so clearly demands more of it.
With this goal in mind, we have launched the #TogetherWeRemember Coalition in partnership with five leading institutions: the Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh, Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum, CANDLES Holocaust Museum, and Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust.
We intend to observe Genocide Awareness Month in solidarity each April and coordinate efforts locally and in the media to amplify our collective impact in the fight against hate. The idea is to unlock the full power of our student, educator, member, and partner networks across the country, in an integrated and highly visible way each year. As a result, Genocide Awareness Month will become an annual phenomenon that is observed in schools, communities, and on social media in a way that brings people together across lines of difference to counter identity-based violence and make meaningful progress toward a world of “Never Again.”
If you lead a Holocaust, Genocide, or Human Rights Museum OR an academic center that focuses on this subject matter, you are eligible to join our coalition. Contact TWR Founder and CEO, David Estrin, for more information about the coalition and how to apply.
