LGBT Experiences During the Holocaust

Join Chhange for their August Virtual Lunch & Learn, LGBT Experiences during the Holocaust. The laws, events, and people that exist at the intersection of Queer Studies and Holocaust history will be explored. This Lunch & Learn will help prepare New Jersey educators who will implement the Inclusive Curriculum Mandate this fall.

Chhange's Program Manager, Nicole Rizzuto, will lead this Lunch & Learn, which includes an explanation of Paragraph 175, personal histories of homosexual victims and survivors of the Holocaust, Alan Turing's contributions to science and technology, and the homophobic conditions under which queer Americans served during World War II.

Nicole Rizzuto is the Program Manager at the Center for Holocaust, Human Rights & Genocide Education, where she plans and organizes Chhange’s programming throughout the year. Rizzuto has experience in the museum field, and taught history courses at Hudson County Community College & New Jersey City University.

Rizzuto is a PhD student in History & Culture at Drew University, where she studies the History of Gender & Sexuality. Her research focuses on the censorship and erasure of marginalized subcultures around the world. She earned her BA in History with a minor in Political Science from the College of Saint Elizabeth and her MA in History & Culture from Drew University. In 2012 she was a part of the Anti-Defamation League’s Campus Leaders Mission to Israel and in 2013 she received the Student Staff Social Justice Award from the Mid-Atlantic Association of College and University Housing Officers.
