On September 28th, 1941, on the eve of Yom Kippur, the Nazis began a massacre of 33,771 Jews in the Babi Yar ravine on the outskirts of Kiev. It was the beginning of Hitler’s plan to totally destroy Soviet Jewry. While more than 2.5 million of the Shoah’s victims were Soviet Jews, many of the stories of these victims and survivors have never been heard.
  
In the Chicago community, virtually every Russian Jewish family has a connection to these losses, and a story to tell. Please join Illinois Holocaust Museum, Holocaust Community Services, and other partners for an online commemoration to honor the memories of those whose lives were brutally cut short, lend strength to the survivors, and bear witness to generations of pain and loss.

Father Desbois, our esteemed speaker, dedicated his life’s work to uncovering stories of the "Holocaust by Bullets" and interviewing witnesses of massacres at Babi Yar and other ravines and sites of mass killing never before documented. Together, we will acknowledge the atrocities of the past and pledge to act in the face of inhumanity and injustice today.
