This is a student-curated event by the student leaders at Terre Haute South High School in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Together We Remember provides us the unique opportunity to bring our community together and celebrate an international campaign to turn remembrance into action. In a town that has witnessed the painful effects of identity-based violence firsthand, it is imperative that we gather together to build meaningful connections with each other.
By working to educate about and prevent genocide on a global level and reduce hatred at the local level, our aim is to create a world free from hatred and genocide. This dedication to work in social justice shapes a community committed to the protection of human rights. We are also transforming resistance through art in the form of butterflies- to display as symbols of affecting change. Through art, people become empowered to take actions against injustice and build a connection to history.
This project serves as a reminder of our own resilience in the face of injustice as well as our power to affect change in the future. By taking a moment to recognize the darkest violations of human rights, it enables us to envision and hold the profound significance of protecting them.
