Virtual Performance: The Soap Myth

TIME: 6:30 PM ET / 3:30 PM PT | PLATFORM: Zoom | REGISTER: https://bit.ly/soapmythilhmec

In Jeff Cohen’s The Soap Myth, set fifty years after the end of World War II, impassioned Holocaust survivor Milton Saltzman battles Holocaust historians to include the atrocity of "soap" in their Holocaust memorials and museums. The play wrestles with the conflict between survivor memory and historical proof, as well as with the scourge of anti-Semitism masquerading as Holocaust denial.

Temple Emanu-El's Streicker Center, in partnership with Illinois Holocaust Museum and National Jewish Theater Foundation, presents a virtual stream of The Soap Myth, performed as a Yom HaShoah tribute starring legendary actors Ed Asner and Tovah Feldshuh. A post-stream webinar will be moderated by Rick Salomon, Vice President of Illinois Holocaust Museum Board of Directors.

The discussion will feature the play’s stars; Jeff Cohen, the playwright; Dr. Michael Berenbaum, renowned Holocaust scholar; and Ira N. Forman, former President Obama’s Special Envoy for Monitoring and Combating Anti-Semitism.

The stream will begin at 6:30 pm Eastern/5:30 pm Central time, and there is no charge for registration. All who register will receive an email with links to watch the play and participate in the discussion.
