Unsung Women of the Civil Rights Movement

Wrap up Women’s History Month with this interactive webinar examining the impact Ella Baker, Fannie Lou Hamer, Constance Baker Motley and other women whose contributions to the Civil Rights Movement have not always been recognized.

Participants will be introduced to Facing History and Ourselves's resources, teaching strategies, and tools to help students look at key moments in the struggle for democracy and human rights in United States history.

During the webinar, participants will:

  • Explore Facing History and Ourselves’ pedagogical approach

  • Engage in classroom strategies and activities that aid in having critical conversations about historical inequities and race in American History

Captioning will be provided during this webinar, which takes place from 4–5 PM ET/3–4 PM CT/ 2–3 PM MT/1–2 PM PT. If this time doesn’t work for your schedule, be sure to register and Facing History will notify you once the recording is available on Facing History’s On-Demand Learning Center

You will be eligible to receive one-hour of professional development credit for participation in the webinar. At the conclusion of the webinar, you will be able to download a certificate of completion from the webinar console. Check with your school district in advance of the webinar to ensure that the professional development credit is accepted.

About the Presenters:

Pamela Donaldson is the Program Director for the Cleveland office of Facing History and Ourselves. As a longtime professional development provider and educator, she is experienced at designing and facilitating curriculum and implementation in the humanities, as well as topics touching on youth empowerment, equity, and justice.

Lisa Lefstein-Berusch is the Director of the Northeast Ohio Partner School Network for Facing History and Ourselves. She has been with Facing History and Ourselves for over nine years and was a literature and writing teacher prior to joining Facing History and Ourselves.
